Home for a Minute
Well hello there, all! I am actually home at this very moment- an unusual occurance since my last post. Since then I have taken a trip to Baltimore, the day after memorial day, for a quickly scheduled, but as executed, marathon interview back at the home office. From 9:30AM to 5:00PM I interviewed with 7 individuals: heads of the departments and the acquisitions editors. The open position is an Acquisitions Editor spot, the position I have worked toward and coveted since my foray into publishing. They said I should know something in 2-4 weeks, and that was May 31st, so I should begin staring at the phone this Tuesday (wait, flipping the calendar. told you i haven't been home much!) the 14th.
Last week I spent a couple days in Albany for a nursing conference. Last weekend Allie was in Boston doing the pre-wedding/batchelorette/college reunion thing with Meg, Courtney, and Monica. I went to my cousin Tim Geist's baptism on Saturday, good times. Then Sunday, went to God-forsaken middle of nowhere Sussex county. I wish I had the camera (Allie had it in Boston, possible pics to follow?) but in our lost wanderings we passed a sign, scrawled in pen on a cardboard box- Goats For Sale. Yeah, that's where we wandered for hours. It was a good cause though, we hung out at a fundraiser for James' friend from Apple who was in a car accident. Good food, fresh air, good music, and a good cause.
I spent this week in New Paltz NY for a schools meeting. Yeah, I've been spending a lot of time in the middle of absolutely nowhere lately. So no cell service all week, intermittent internet access, getting rear-ended while stopped in traffic outside of Newark Airport (had to pick up a colleague on my way up), oh yeah, fun. The only good part of the trip was that the meeting was at the Mohonk Mountain House, which, though in a remote portion of the middle of nowhere, is an amazing old place.
Tomorrow we are off to Baltimore to visit with friends and bid Kelly a fond farewell as she gallops off to Texas for grad school. This weekend trip is Grandma's health permitting, she went into the hospital earlier this week with some chest pains and tests should be coming back today. It's also Nancy's health permitting, she just came out of surgery for her intestines. Everything went well there, nothing unexpected, so we'll be monitoring that as well.
Next week we are scheduled to head out to Seattle for a 5-day vacay touring that harbor town of the great northwest. Wonderful fun awaits there thanks to Catherine (yay Catherine!).

Welcome Home KristEn
Well well, Ms. Pakonis has found her way back to the mainland. After months of Hawaiian soul searching and spiritual exploration on The Bus, madam Punky has made it back to Jersey. Welcome home Punks. We had our first dose of Kristen on Saturday, as she came by Mo-town for some pics, some laughs, and some patio sitting. Catch the whole crazy photo shoot here.
Allie received notice on Frioday of her acceptance to The College of St. Elizabeth's Teacher's Certification Program. Come on, let's hear it for her folks! Congratulations are definitely in order here. In celebration, we dined on Fresh Mex at the local Chevy's watering hole. Yum, quesadillas, coronas, and fresh tortillas and salsa. Viva Mexico, and Viva teacher's certification!
Saturday was a day for some great golf (despite not getting of the tee). I have this amazing talent for driving the ball 200 yards off the tee, but still with 100 yards of left to right draw. Imagine if I could ever straighten that out? Not to worry PGA, the harder I try, the further right it goes. Looks like I'll have to aim at the Pacific to hit it in the Atlantic.
Sunday was a wonderfully lazy day of reading, napping, dinering, and more reading. Yanks pull out the rubber game against the Mets and all is good in the world.
One closing note: Ask Allie about her and Michelle's hike this past week. Wonder how they started in Ringwood and wound up in Boonton? Wonder what Ken Card was doing wandering the woods whistling? Wonder why Allie now is required to wear a GPS transmitter? Why not just ask her :)

AIDS Walk NY
Yesterday was the 20th annual AIDS Walk NY, and oh what a wonderful day! (Click here for the pics!!!) Bleary-eyed, Allie and I caught the chilly 7:24 train with some Jersey Boy bagels and rode the pleasantly filled Penn-bound railcar into midtown. The day warmed up nicely as we walked from Penn to the park, passing many stretch limos along the way. Once we got to the park, the enormity of the gathering started setting in. Last year they had 45,000 people, and though I have no concept of what that many people would look like on the paths of Central Park or on the streets of the Upper West, I can't imagine we had any less than that yesterday. After registering, caught the second half of the emotionial opening ceremonies, met up with Greg who had some transportation challenges along the way, and got the walk on the road at 10:30. The weather was perfect- a tad overcast, 70 or so, a spritz every now and again, and spot of sun. Can't beat it for a 10K walk. The cross-section of people represented was absolutely wonderful. There were groups from all walks of life- families, high schools, churches, human rights, health organizations, solo-walkers, corporations....it really was a nice boost to one's belief in the possible goodness in humanity.
I'd recommend anyone with any interest in supporting this or just having a beautiful walk around Manhattan sign up and take the time to walk in 2006.

Happy B-day JimmyJames!
That's right, James Dean Underwood has seen his 25th birthday! In honor of the event, I brought he and Ms. Jen to Yankee stadium for a lovely Sunday afternoon of pinstripe baseball. Check out the pics at this Snapfish album (I think linking to the album is the best way to share photos, the long line of pictures seems a bit cumbersome. Agreed?). Good times, and many hotdogs, were had by all. This victory also started a bit of a rally in the Yankee season...amazing what a show of NJ support can do for a team, eh? Unfortunately Allie was not able to join us, as she was in Pittsburgh showering Monica in celebration of the upcoming nuptuals of our friends Monica and Tom.
Fortunately, this weekend neither Allie nor I will be traveling. Sunday is the AIDS Walk NY, so Allie, Greg, and I will be joined bright and early in Central Park by 45,000 fellow supporters and fund raiser to raise AIDS awareness. Other than that, the fate of the weekend is very much in mother nature's hands. Yay, spring. Fishing...biking...who knows but Al Roker, and he's playing coy. Oh Al.

Happy Birthday Allie!!!!!!!!!!
Allie turned 25 yesterday, and in honor of that, we had another birthday weekend. It began Friday with a candlit dinner prepared by yours truly. I set the table with our best china and cooked up my very special grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was scruptious, if I do say so myself.
Saturday, I picked up Allie's present and brought it home. Unfortunately it was raining out, so we didn't get to go for a ride as I had planned. :( But we did get some quality lazing in before dinner time. Then dinner came around and the Cards took us out to a very neat old victoria B&B that has been turned into a restaurant that hosts "The Best Jazz In the Poconos". The music was good though :P The place is called The Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, PA, just in case anyone is up for the adventure. Oh, and better Pork Tenderloin can be found in Ringwood :)
Then Sunday, Greg came by and we took Allie to Maywood where we enjoyed a luxurious brunch prepared to perfection- Eggs Benedict and all the B&W pastries you can eat. Yum!
